Career Prospects
The skills gained through a study of the Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours are highly valued in a broad range of careers. Having a well-developed ability to use English and to critically analyse language use will give graduates a competitive edge in a variety of career pathways, including administration, business, the media and teaching.
The degree is recognized by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government as a ‘language major degree’ for the purposes of qualification as an English teacher. In combination with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education majoring in English, the degree grants exemption from the Language Proficiency Requirement for Teachers of English in Hong Kong.

Some students will continue to study for a Master’s degree by course work or by research in areas such as linguistics, applied linguistics, TESOL, translation and journalism. Those who wish to enter the teaching profession can pursue their Postgraduate Diploma in Education studies either on a full-time basis or part-time while working full-time as a teacher.
